Chiropractic Care:
Our methods of delivering chiropractic care are quite different than most people expect! When a patient first experiences our chiropractic methods of care, they are pleasantly surprised by how gentle and effective the care is. Most people have a picture in their mind when they think of chiropractic care. Too often people think of their bodies being twisted, pulled, and "popped" in many different directions.
Although this kind of hands on adjustment is common, the care we provide our patients is much less forceful. It may be quite helpful to give you a brief overview of how we care for our patients. If you are new to our office, the first step is to meet with us to discuss your condition. We will perform a complete review of your present problems and discuss your past medical history. This gives us insight into the nature of your overall health.
Most pain and structural problems are caused by injuries/traumas, too much daily stress, and poor nutrition. These factors lead to a malfunction of your body's structural support components; mainly your muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, and discs (cushions between the spinal bones). These support structures provide the framework that allows for movement, flexibility, and stability of your body. When one of these support structures is injured, it will affect the nerves in your body, and the symptom of pain is most often produced.
Pain is your body's built in way of telling you that you have a problem. In many situations regarding pain, people are tempted to take a "wait and see" approach. Their hope is that maybe the pain will go away on its own. Although pain can go away on its own, if the problem with the muscle, joint, disc, or other structural tissue is not resolved, it is only a matter of time before the pain returns!
And almost always once the pain returns, it is worse than before! So our evaluation is designed to uncover which structural parts are leading to your complaint. We perform tests that evaluate your flexibility, your muscle balance, your posture, and your overall body alignment. In some cases more testing may be needed such as x-rays, however, advanced tests like an x-ray are only performed if necessary.
Upon completion of your evaluation, we can let you know right away if we can help you. We don't delay or make you wait until your second visit to tell you if we can help. Our feeling is that you deserve to know up front what is wrong and if we can help. In the vast majority of cases we can begin your care right away and get you on the path towards eliminating your pain and improving your overall health!
Our goal for all of our patients is to help them get pain free and well. We want to see everyone get back to living their normal life in the shortest amount of time possible! In many instances our patients experience a reduction in pain in a few visits to our office. Typically, over a few weeks pain is reduced and eliminated. However, the important point to remember is the method of how your body heals. The structural components of your body take time to fully recover. It takes your body several weeks to months to recover and rebuild healthy muscles and joints. Ligaments, tendons, and spinal discs can take several months to fully heal. It is crucial to allow for the proper amount of time to make a full recovery.
Too many people expect an instant result as that is the culture we live in. Wanting results "yesterday" is an all too common thought! And although our methods help patients recover quickly, the folks who respect the healing time of the body are the ones who get the best results. Isn't it worth your time to invest in a program of care that will help your body stay working at its best? Well, only you can answer that, but our thought is: This is the only body you will ever get, so if you wear it out where are your going to live?
When our patients expect to get well, maintain a positive attitude regarding their healing process, and respect the amount of time it takes for their body to fully heal, the long term results can be remarkable! Like all things in life, the people who have the best expectations are the ones who do the best!
About Our Methods Of Healing:
The intent of our healing methods are to correct, align, and balance the structures of the human body in order to allow your body to heal itself more effectively. We work primarily with the supportive framework of the body consisting of the muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, discs, bones, and the nerves which control those structures. The techniques we utilize gentle relax tight muscles, open up stiff joints, and remove tension throughout the body.
One of the major techniques we use is called the Pain Neutralization Technique or PNT. This approach to healing was developed by the research and experience of Dr Stephen Kaufman. His 30 plus years of working with patients led him to create this method. PNT uses light finger tip pressures applied to muscles in specific directions that very gently loosens muscles.
PNT work alleviates tender points in muscles called Trigger Points. A trigger point is an irritated area of muscle that will cause pain and can refer pain to other locations of the body. Unlike massage and other muscle techniques, PNT does not press on the trigger point but works around it. This makes the treatment very comfortable for the patient. Each PNT session removes trigger points and as the points are removed, the pain and other symptoms improve as well. PNT works on a wide range of problems and is easily tolerated by people with all ages and conditions.
PNT is especially helpful for people who cannot get or tolerate a hands on chiropractic adjustment. It is also safe for people who have had previous surgery or who have bone problems like osteoporosis. PNT can be safely applied to any of the 600 muscles in the body. Most sessions of PNT focus on the muscles of the spine, the rib cage, abdomen, the neck, the arms, and legs. All the muscles of the body are essentially connected and a problem with one muscle group causes problems in other muscle groups. PNT takes a whole body approach to the muscles of the body and assesses which muscles are causing the problems.
As effective as PNT is, in certain cases it is necessary to perform additional techniques. In situations like this we provide our patients with chiropractic joint alignments called adjustments. Adjustments keep the joints balanced properly, and adjustments to the spine allow for the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to function more optimally.
Few people including doctors realize just how important the spine is to the function of the brain and nerve system. The brain receives a great deal of nerve stimulation from the proper movement of the spine. When your spine is out of alignment the nerve messages to the brain are greatly reduced, and the brain itself does not work effectively. Since the brain is responsible for controlling the vast majority of your body's functions, it is always a good idea to keep your brain working at top speed! Chiropractic adjustments to align the spine assures that your brain will be working more effectively to keep your body healthier.
For those patients who do not like or cannot receive a traditional chiropractic hands on adjustment to the spine, we offer a low force adjustment. Using either gentle pressure from our hands or by using an electronically controlled instrument, a low force adjustment can be made to the spine without the "popping" and "cracking" that is common with a traditional hands on adjustment.
We have found over the years that people tend to prefer the lower force methods of care we offer. It is important to note that for those who like a hands on traditional adjustment of the body we can accommodate you as well if that is your preference. Overall whether you prefer the low force methods or the more traditional hands on care, we can provide it to you with the same quality service you expect from your doctor!
And finally it is important that you know Dr Jenn has been specially trained in myofascial release. This is a method of healing similar to massage. It can be a great complement to everything that we do for our patients. The nice benefit to having Dr Jenn performing this service is that our patients do not have to go to a massage therapist. We provide the care all in one spot! And since we are a provider for many insurance plans, often this service is covered in our office. Of course every insurance plan is different and needs to be verified first.
So no matter what your looking for, what your age is, how bad you are, or where you find yourself, we can find an approach that will allow you to get the help you need to get well again!
Wellness Services:
Right now more people than at any other time in history are demanding to see doctors who can help them stay healthy over the course of their life. Wellness care simply defined is care, strategies, and information that is designed to maximize a persons health and minimize their chances of having a disease. Unfortunately most medical physicians are not equipped to help their patients by providing wellness care. Medical doctors do not have the time, the ability, resources, and in some instances the knowledge to provide wellness information to their patients.
So due to the lack of quality information available, we have created a program of wellness services for our patients. As long as a patients is an active member of our practice, we provide ongoing wellness services for little or no fee in most cases. Our Wellness Care includes an effective and long term weight loss system, nutrition, health supplement recommendations, creating exercise programs, teaching people how to handle stress, and guiding them on how they can make healthier choices for themselves and their families.
A well informed group of people can make better decisions about their health thus impacting our health care system as a whole. If more people are less sick and more healthy, we will ultimately see much less cost overall in our medical system. Helping people build their wellness is the only true prevention strategy that really works! |
